Article #1 – Data Centers: Oh boy, this is the “talk of the town” in Southeastern Michigan at the moment! So, yes, I have most certainly heard it before, in places from city council meetings right down to in my Spanish class’ learning of vocabulary about the environment. This truly is a heated debate around Michigan.

To sum up the WXYZ, Channel 7 article, it discusses how a meeting was held at Northville High School, with several representatives, including Attorney General Dana Nessel, in attendance. The meeting was held to reassure residents of local communities, such as Lyon Township, Van Buren Township, and many others, that ideas are out there for how to control the usage of water by these data centers. However, a rather pessimistic account was given by Nessel, who said that the data centers would come one way or another; however, they are working out ways to safeguard tax payments and water bills for residents.

This hit very close to me, and I’m curious to see what comes next with our Southeast MI data centers.

Article #2 – Millionaires in Congress: Here we go! It’s political debate time! To sum this article up, at least 73/100 US Senators have a net worth of greater than or equal to 1 million dollars, which the author (Taylor Giorno) argues is misrepresentative of the middle and lower-class majorities of the United States. This argument is backed up with the statistic that only 7% of Americans have more than 1 million dollars.

In my opinion, this is a legitimate issue, and we need to get more “Average Joes” to represent our citizens and to advocate what the needs of the majority of the population are.
