On Wednesday, February 25th, 2026, I got to participate in a Civic Learning Week conversation with Sonia Sotomayor, an Associate Justice for the United States Supreme Court. Here is my reflection about it.

Reflection:

WOW. That’s the only word I can use to describe this experience. Over my school’s mid-winter break, the last thing I was expecting was an email inviting me to this conversation. Initially, I was a bit apprehensive, but I decided to go for it, and I’m glad that I did!

On the call – it was amazing to see all of the different perspectives about civic life. There were so many different people from so many different states, and it was interesting to see how civics is played out in their day-to-day lives. The stories and anectodes that Justice Sotomayor shared were amazing to hear as well, and I enjoyed how she both respectfully agreed and disagreed with everyone’s anectodes, often adding on to and “requoting” them when she spoke. It’s not every day that you get to speak to a Supreme Court Justice!

In general, I’m incredibly glad that I was invited to participate in this Zoom meeting, and it truly was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Artifact:

I do not have an artifact of this meeting due to Supreme Court guidelines. However, it is available to watch on the Civic Learning Week website.
