About a month ago, I completed my CIVIC MOMENT TIMELINE about special civics-related events that have happened in my life so far. Now, as an extension activity, here are more of those events that I hope happen in the near future.
Moment #1 – Induction into National Honor Society
My sophomore year (which is this year) is where I will know if I qualify to be inducted into the South Lyon East High School chapter of the National Honor Society. Typically, you qualify if you get a 3.5 GPA and have 15 hours of community service per semester, and I already have both of those things. Joining the National Honor Society at my high school will allow me to get even more involved in school events and charity donations and activities, which I would be extremely excited about. Overall, I hope to join NHS to further my civic engagement and leadership opportunities.
Moment #2 – Voting!
I will be able to vote in the 2028 presidential election, and I’m super excited about it! This will be a hugely defining factor in my civic timeline, and I think it pretty much speaks to itself. I’m excited to get my voice heard in who should lead our country!
Moment #3 – Debate Club Presidential Elections
I was already elected as my school’s Debate president for my Junior year, but I hope to be elected again during my Senior year. I love leading groups and being able to show my management skills, so I hope to be elected again to continue making a change and showcasing my leadership skills.
Moment #4 – Joining Key Club
In my Junior year of high school, I hope to join my school’s chapter of Key Club, an organization that assists in planning volunteer events in the South Lyon, Michigan community. I do live a very busy lifestyle and participate in many other extracurricular activities, both inside and outside of school sponsorship. However, I hope to join the Key Club, which partners with the Kiwanis Organization of Michigan, to extend my community service outreach.
Moment #5 – Extend Volunteering Opportunities!
In the future, I hope to become more active in my community. From participating in food drives to helping at the annual Rail Trail Cleanup in South Lyon, I hope to become more civically engaged and widen my horizons of volunteer work across Southeast Michigan.
